Your Questions Answered:

What is Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS)?

IC/BPS is a condition recognized by the American Urologic Association that manifests as unpleasant symptoms such as pain, discomfort, and urinary pressure centered on the bladder.

How do I know if I have IC/BPS?

Diagnosis is challenging as the condition lacks a tell-tale biomarker or test that provides a definitive answer. Therefore, diagnosis is generally symptom-based. IC/BPS often shares common characteristics with urinary tract infections (UTIs) but exists in the absence of infection or other identifiable causes. Symptoms typically last for more than 6 weeks

What is the GainME-IC study?

GainME-IC is a clinical study investigating use of lidocaine in a disease-targeted formulation, aiming to potentially develop an investigational medicine that might support relief for individuals living with IC. This study is designed to assess the safety and tolerability of an intravesical (into the bladder) administration of an investigational lidocaine medication in female patients with IC/BPS.

Who is eligible to participate in the GainME-IC study?

Since most cases occur in women, this portion of the study will focus on women 18-64 years old who have a diagnosis of, or symptoms consistent with, IC/BPS.

Why should I consider the GainME-IC study?

If you have a diagnosis of IC/BPS or symptoms consistent with the condition, you know there are significant quality-of-life disruptions. So, at its heart, the GainME-IC study is about developing a medicine to address these symptoms and advancing medical science toward possible treatments.

About Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS)

While anyone can get IC/BPS, it strikes women an estimated 5 times more than men. As many as 8 million women have symptoms that are consistent with IC/BPS.

IC/BPS patients are also frequently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and irritable bowel syndrome.

IC/BPS disrupts quality of life in so many ways. There’s often pain and discomfort that may be triggered by a variety of stimuli. Pain may be accompanied by feelings of urinary urgency and need to urinate.
